What Up, Doe?

My name is Nastassia and I am Detroit native - hence the title. For those of you that don't know, "What Up, Doe?" is a Detroit street greeting; it's how we say hello and how we recognize other Detroiters.

This blog will be a lifestyle blog... or should I say a blog about my lifestyle. It will have random but relevant posts about my everyday happenings. This includes run-ins with my almost one year old who happens to literally be half my size (I am 5 foot even and he is 30.5 inches); day to day dealing with my seventeen-year-old high school senior; and conversations with my Hus-bae while managing the thought of turning forty in 3 months. Oh, did I mention I was also 5 months pregnant?!? You’ll also read thought out posts about me currently looking for a nanny, making Target store runs at 8 am, my IVF journey versus my now pregnancy journey, what I consider self-care, and the many things I do and am considering doing. With that being said, let me tell you a little more about me…

I moved to Atlanta about 4 years ago because my husband got a promotion. Before moving here, I had a well-established salon. I was also starting a business where I helped beauty professionals manage their finances and brands. My now high school senior had just graduated from the eighth grade and was not happy about moving, especially to another state. He had his heart set on attending Groves High School with his friends. We were also in the middle of trying to conceive and were going through IVF treatment. The move was not the best timing; however, it was the best decision for our family financially.

Just when we got moved in and acclimated with the area we lived in, COVID-19 hit making our smooth transition rough. My husband got sick at the same time the news started discussing the virus and everyone was freaking out. I had no clue what to expect and I knew I didn’t want to get sick, and I didn’t want my son to get sick, so we closed him off in our guest bedroom. We would literally leave his food outside the door, knock, then run down the stairs to avoid encountering him. It was the longest two weeks ever! I remember us having to put off IVF treatment once again prolonging our wait for another child, and my son being once again devastated because his social life would again be affected by this pandemic. What made matters worse is that my husband had to work throughout the entire thing. It was a scary time and a time where our faith was tested. We were in a new state, had no family, no friends, and didn’t know anyone or anything outside of our neighborhood.

Once we were all off house arrest, things started to feel normal again. My husband and I started going back on our weekly dates and fell in love with Atlanta. My son made new friends, joined the drama and track team at his high school and is considered popular. Who would’ve thought? And we were able to have a successful IVF journey and welcome our new baby boy. There were other things that happened too… I got a job as a Social Media Coordinator and I was great at it, but I had to quit because I had a tiny human to care for. I made a lifelong dream come true and hired a maid. Like a real-life maid! But because I wanted the maid, I was paying for the maid. When I quit, I had to choose between the maid and the tiny human. The tiny human won. To top all of this off… I am pregnant again and due in June.

So, get your wine and popcorn because this blog will be an addition to your weekly entertainment.

What up doe?! Wow - that’s a lot of change for one person. This one post is enough content to expand on for the rest of the blog. Your story is inspirational and I can’t believe you’re almost 40! I’ll be tuning in for updates. What are your birthday plans?
